A video of my evening roof jaunt. It’s not really sticking to the rules of my photo project, but it gives you some sights and sounds of kabul.
I spend most of my late afternoons and evenings reading and reflecting on my balcony. It’s literally bigger than my room and I’m able to people watch on my terms. Most days I wear tshirts when I’m on my balcony, its my way of sticking it to the man. Its relatively private and I’d like to think that no one can see me. I’m sure I’ve shocked my security personnel on a couple of occassions, but for the most part I’m unseen. Tonight I climbed up onto the roof, from my balconey. There was a ladder…so I couldn’t resist. The video above was taken around the evening prayer time. You should be able to hear the multiple calls to pray, intermixed with some evening traffic. My pictures definitely haven’t been doing Kabul justice, these are the times I wish I had some artistic talent to find another way to share how beautiful this place is. Hopefully you’ll get a sense of the landscape, with mountains that literally surround every side of the city.
My fellow classmate, Purvi is amazing! Thanks for letting us hear these sounds!
